About the DDD Independent Study Program
Cofounded and led by Michael Stone-Richards and Addie Langford.
The Detroit Independent Study Program is a site of experimentation and exploration in cross-disciplinary artistic practice, writing, scholarship, and social engagement.
The Detroit ISP is a place for Fellows and artists | practitioners | thinkers to explore challenging ideas and create through critical practice, collaboration, and open conversation.
The Detroit Independent Study Program draws upon established and emerging formations of humanistic, anthropological, philosophical, and scientific / AI disciplines to explore how we see, construct, and comprehend the worlds we build and share through the forms of knowing, sensing, feeling, making, and talking, that is, the various languages we use for talking about (what we still insist on calling) art but also practice.
The community will participate in readings, performances, screenings, poetry and creative writing, studio visits and post-studio explorations in the city of Detroit with leading artists, writers, and curators.
Also available to the community of the Detroit ISP are the rich and diverse cultural, institutional, and artistic resources of Metro-Detroit including major public research institutions, major private collections of contemporary art (open to participants of the Detroit ISP), as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Detroit, the Detroit Institute of Arts, a diverse culture of artist-run spaces, and a vibrant scene of major galleries with national and international reach.
Each member of the Detroit ISP community - whether artist, writer, theorist, curator - will develop a deep and creative knowledge of the City of Detroit and the resources it makes available for a critical and social practice.
